. Tramways manager of Liverpool Cor-poration since 1920, Mr. Percy Priestly, who returned from aholiday cruise at the beginning of last week, and who almost immediately entered a nursing home, where he underwent an operation for appendicitis and other internal troubles, died, at Liverpool, last Monday.

In 1907 he was general manager and engineer of the Mexborough and Swinton Tramways Co., and in 1916 entered the service of Oldham Corporation as general manager and engineer. Two years later he came to Liverpool to take control of the workshops, depots and traffic arrangements, also of the building of the garage in Old Swan and the Organization of the new motorbus services.

Mr. Priestly was president of the Municipal Tramways and Transport Association for the 1925-26 session, and was for many years an active council member of the Association. He was also a member of the Institute of Automobile Engineers and the Institute of Transport, for which he arranged the transport conference in Liverpool in 1928. Many municipal-transport officials will feel severely the loss of an old friend.

Breconshire's Last Toll Bridges to be Freed.

By joint action between Brecon and Radnor County Councils and the Ministry of Transport, the last of the toll bridges in Breeonshire are to pass into the county council's possession and will be freed from tolls.

The Ministry has agreed to make a grant of 50 per cent, towards the cost of making up the roads over the bridges and of etrengthening them. The county councils named, acting jointly, have thus been enabled to buy Bough Rood and Hay toll bridges, which connect the counties. Brecon County Council will itself take over the Llangrwyney toll bridge, the last in the county.

Burnley Manager's Appointment.

Mr. C. H. Stafford, manager of Burnley Corporation's tramways and bus undertaking, has been appointed general manager of the joint transport authority which will control the amalgamated passenger-teansport undertakings of Burnley, Nelson and Coble Corporation from April 1.
