MR. STIRK VERSUS COALVILLE. COUNCIL

A DISPUTE has arisen between Mr.

Stirk, chairman of the East Midland Traffic Commissioners, and Coalville Urban District Council. Mr. Stirk said recently that the Commissioners were not helped by local authorities in connection with increases in fares, and the municipality took exception to this remark. It appears that objection to certain proposed increases in fares was made too late.

Mr. Stirk is opposed to dearer fares, and he states that of 212 local authorities in his area only one made valid objection to increased charges. The dispute, said Mr. Stirk, is to be continued.
