I WINCANTON HAS applied for authorisation for its new operating centre

.

in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, for 60 vehicles and the same number of trailers.

The facility in Essex Road will replace its regional foodservice operations at Luton and Dunstable, and provide increased capacity, better staff facilities and environmental improvements.

All existing 136 Wincanton staff at Luton and Dunstable have been offered the opportunity to work at the new facility.

The operations in Luton and Dunstable will continue as normal until the new site opens in late July. The freezer is likely to be the last part of the operation to transfer in late August.

Wincanton says it is carrying out a "full consultation" with employees and unions over the move.

David Jones, MD for foodservice, Wincanton. says: "The site at Luton is both old and constrained in terms of size to meet current challenges and our anticipated further business growth.

-This new modern facility, with 220,000ft2, will allow us to greatly enhance the service to our customers, enabling both Wincanton's ambitious growth plans and those of our existing customers to be met."
