Many parcel carriers have decided that offering light deliveries is not enough. In October 2009, Geodis Calberson, the UK arm of French logistics giant Geodis, and owner of pallet network Forted, formed an alliance with ARC Overnight.

The strategic tie-up means APC's 125 depots across the UK are linked to the combined hub at Watford Gap, Northamptonshire, that handles the Forted pallet traffic and acts as Geodis Calberson's European centre. Fortec and ARC member Millbray Contracts, based in Hainault, Essex, says it has won new contracts on the back of offering customers a one-stopshop.

"Clients are keen to handle all their consignments under one umbrella. Even in tight times, it is vital that service levels do not drop, and we can ensure quality at all times," says Phil Gee, MD Millbray Contracts.
