CM has gained — don't ask us where! — world exclusive access to top-secret pictures of a new van range destined for these shores later this year. Andy Salter reveals the details.

THESE EXCLUSIVE pictures show BMC's van and chassiscab line-up going through final prototype testing ahead of its UK launch in October.

Leaked by an industry insider, these pictures indicate that the new van, codenamed M140, will be a force to be reckoned with. Its stylish looks, established driveline and ultra competitive pricing will give established players plenty of cause for concern.

The 2.2-3.5-tonne GVW M140 will include van, ready-bodied chassis-cab and people-mover versions. They all have the same cab design, featuring deep screen and side windows for excellent visibility, wide-opening door apertures and a robust bumper. The interior sports a dash-mounted gearstick, neat styling and good quality trim material. Power for the Turkish-built range is said to come from the

same Italian-built VM engine as the all-new LDV (coincidentally due for launch at the same time), driving through a five-speed Toyota gearbox.

Parabolic steel springs are the order of the day all-round; braking is handled by discs at the front with drums at the rear. List prices are expected to be very competitive, attacking the volume sector currently occupied

by LDV and Ford. The range will be sold by Coventry-based BMC UK in this country; it joins rigid trucks and buses in the line-up.
