A NEW 25 million dollar truck transmission plant for a division of Eaton Axles was officially opened today by Eaton's president Paul A. Miller.
The plant at St Nasaire in France is Eaton's third European plant producing heavy duty vehicle transmissions and the sixth within the company's European truck components group.
It offers a full range of drive axles, brakes, trailer axles and skid control systems.
During the planning stages of the plant management took the opportunity to introduce the latest manufacturing and quality technology drawn from Eaton's worldwide operation.
This included the case boring and heat treatment plants.
The principal product being manufactured during the first phase of operation is Eaton 900 series of Eaton-Fuller Transmissions.
The Eaton-Fuller twin countershaft transmission built and used around the world for on/off highway trucks of 30-35 tonnes gcw has a unique floating mainshaft principal and range-change design which makes it one of the shortest and lightest units of its capacity available in ,Europe.
