THE villagers of Ratho in Midlothian have won a six-month fight against bus service cuts which they claimed could "leave us stranded from the outside world."
The successful campaign for a transport "lifeline" ended in victory following representations to the court of the Scottish Traffic Commissio ners.
The plea was made by the Ratho District Association, who argued that service curtailments by Scottish Omnibuses have caused "great hardship to the whole community."
In a letter to the commissioners, they said the bus group had "not shown adequate consideration for the needs of the village community" and had failed to realise the economic potential of the service.
Now however, the Scottish Omnibuses have agreed to operate an "ideal service" suggested by the villagers. And they have made a plea to passengers — "For heaven's sake use it."
