RENEWING an 0 licence held by John O'Neill, of Chester Road, Castle Bromwich, for a I2-month period, West Midland LA, A. A. Crabtree, told him to find a new operating centre.
Mr O'Neill was applying to renew the licence which had authorised four vehicles, and add another vehicle with his declared operating centre at Chester Road. The application was opposed by the West Midland County Council.
M. G. Habgood, principal engineer in the County's engineering and transportation department, said the declared operating centre was purely a dwelling house with no planning permission for commercial use.
In order to gain access, the vehicle had to use a very narrow service road and then reverse on to the drive of the house.
It might well be that the local borough council would take action for breaches of the planning regulations.
Mr O'Neill said he had specifically chosen that house so that he could park a vehicle there without hindrance to anyone else.
It was next door to a commercial garage and the park ing of his vehicle on his drive was not making the environment any worse than it already was. The house itself was not used for business purposes and the local council had told him he did not require planning permission to park his vehicle there. He was in the process of looking for warehouse premises but so far had failed to come up with anything.
Mr Crabtree said he did not feel it was a very suitable pla-ce as an operating centre, but it was not his job to hinder operators, and consequently he was prepared to make a short term grant.
He was not happy with this operating centre and his advice was "find somewhere else."
