TT is expected that Newcastle-on-Tyne / City Council will prepare a new report on the proposed nationalization of road passenger transport in the north-east for submission to the Road Transport Executive.

The council now has a Progressive majority as a result of the municipal elections, and the Progressive Party stated recently that it was not willing to hand over the city's transport'system to the R.T.E. without the payment of adequate compensation.

LT.A. TO HOLD CONGRESS

A CONGRESS at the Charing Cross 1-1, Hotel, London, is to be held from October 7-9 by the Industrial Transport Association. The first day's proceedings will comprise the annual general meeting, a luncheon, a visit to' the works of Tyresoles, Ltd., at Wembley, and the annual dinner.

The following day, Mr. S. C. Bond, chairman of the Nottingham branch, will read a paper, and afterwards there will be a luncheon. In the afternoon, delegates will be able to Visit London Airport. The last day will be set aside for a coach trip around London.

CONTRACT LICENCES AND BRAKES: BE WARNED!

INEPORTS from various parts of the

country show that the Licensing Authorities are paying increased attention to the enforcement of the condi: tions of contract A licences..A Cheshire haulier was recently fined £3, with £3 3s. costs, on six summonses for using a vehicle under a contract licence to carry goods for a person other than the proper customer. A Kent haulier was fined £2 on a similar charge.

There is also evidence that the policc are becoming increasingly vigilant in connection with brakes. Several hauliers have recently hen fined for using vehicles with inefficient brakes.
