Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

COMMERCIAL vehicle sales last month fell by 9.78 per cent over sales in June last year, but Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders figures show an overall increase of 6.9 per cent for the first six months of this year.

Imports for the first six months were 7.4 per cent up on the same period last year, but June imports fell by 4.1 per cent.

Sales in most sectors last month fell, but light vans (generally the car-derived vehicles and the smallest Japanese models like the Honda Acty) scored an increase, from 4,687 in June 1981 to 5,040 last month.

Medium and heavy van sales dropped from 8,764 to 6,786, and imports fell from 3,039 to 2,638. Ford sales, which showed an astonishing increase in May, were down, from 3,402 in June 1981,10 2,052.

Truck and artic sales fell from 3,438 to 3,331, but the relentless onslaught of the importers continued, with sales rising from 763 to 944. The leading British manufacturers all suffered falls, with Ford dropping from 751 to 591, Leyland from 550 to 490, and Bedford from 546 to 489.

Light 4x4 sales fell from 658 to 637 last month.
