• The 1200 busmen employed at Newcastle upon Tyne by the Tyneside PTE have threatened to strike on Sunday, July 26, unless the Executive rescinds its decision to withdraw a 43s a week wage rise from those who refuse to work on Sundays.
A few weeks ago, the Executive negotiated a pay rise with the TGWU under which Sunday work became scheduled overtime. Many employees have been refusing Sunday work—as a result, recent Sunday services have been considerably curtailed. The Executive then issued an ultimatum that employees who failed to work on Sundays would not receive the 43s.
