The Government is to repeal the antity licensing provisions of the ransport Act 1968, Mr John Peyton, linister of Transport, announced in the ommons on Wednesday. He said the rovisions would go "at the first pportunity"; meanwhile, they would remain operative.
The object of the quantity licensing rovisions was to prevent large goods ;:hicles (over 16 tons gross plated weight) om carrying goods on journeys of over 00 miles (and loads of over 11 tons of ertain unspecified bulk traffics over shorter istances) without a special authorization. Introduction of the provisions had been ostponed by the former Labour overnment.
