Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

interim 0 grant

• If the Metropolitan Licensing Authority refuses to grant the application for 82 vehicles and 35 trailers made by the new directors of Charles Poulter Ltd (CM July 10) the company is likely to be faced with claims for redundancy payments. It is understood that the Transport and General Workers' Union will -make the claims on behalf of the drivers, some of whom have been with the company for 25 years.

The 0-licence application will appear in Applications and Decisions on July 23 and the public inquiry will be held on August 18. In the meantime Mr D. I. R. Muir, the Metropolitan LA, has granted an interim licence.

In a letter advising the company of his decision it is understood that Mr Muir has emphasized that the grant is entirely without prejudice to his decision on the substantive application, and that the company should keep this fact in mind in relation to its effect on their drivers' employment. The LA is believed to have advised the company that it should explain its position to the drivers, that the grant is only temporary and there is no guarantee that it will become permanent when the substantive application is heard.
