Industrial Floor Sweeper A BATTERY-OPERATED industrial floor sweeper, the rx Corvette 70, has recently been introduced by Motor Rail Ltd., of Bedford. This new model will sweep a floor area of 2,310 sq. ft. in five minutes and is claimed to be suitable for all industrial and commercial floor sweeping applications. It will pass through an aisle only 3 ft. 3 in. wide.

The main brush gives a sweeping width of 2 ft. 3-5 in. and this can be increased to 3 ft. by using the side brush at the same time. The side brush, which can be raised from the ground, is mainly intended to sweep in gullies, alongside walls and in corners. Both brushes are raised and lowered by operating handles at the rear of the machine, the handles also incorporating controls to regulate brush pressure.

A high-volume 1-ft-diameter fan extracts the dust from the refuse; it is then filtered off into a separate compartment through 80 sq. in. of resin-impregnated paper filters, effective down to three microns. Heavy refuse is drawn into a 1-5-cu.-ft. refuse drawer at the rear. Two switches are used; one to switch on the traction and brush motor, the other to operate the fan.

The Corvette 70 is of three-wheel design: it is driven by the two rear wheels, which are fitted with overrun ratchets to allow it to turn in its own length. The two motors (one drives the traction and brush gear, the other the vacuum fan) are powered by 'a 12-cell, 24-V. Kathanode traction battery with a capacity of 72 Ah.

The battery is mounted at the rear and is designed to work for approximately three hours continuous running at a maximum speed of 2 m.p.h.

Pliable Gear Grease AHIGH-B1TUMEN content gear grease is now available in aerosol spray cans from D.C.M.C. Industrial Aerosols Ltd. The gear grease is claimed to be tough, pliable, water-repellent and heat-resistant, and to adhere tightly to gear surfaces, to tracks and sliding surfaces on fork-lift trucks, gantries, cranes, winches, as well as to open-bevel helical and worm-type screw threads.

The advantages claimed for D.C.M.C. 818 Gear Shield (available in 16-oz. cans) are economy, better penetration and reduction of wastage (due to the product being applied directly to the work area). The product cannot become contaminated because the aerosol package protects the grease until it is released. The grease is also said to be ideal as a protective for agricultural equipment, lifting gears and wire ropes. 818 Gear Shield is obtainable only through the manufacturer's head office.
