QEPARATE conditions of use covering

• --) British Railways liner train containers when in the hands of hauliers have now been agreed between the railways, British Road Services and the Road Haulage Association, and will be brought into effect when the liner scheme is inaugurated. The principal aims are to dispense with the present paperwork which use of railway containers involves (a separate agreement has to be completed for each container) and to prevent misuse of the containers where these are railway property.

The main provisions state that the containers shall be used for traffic which is destined for rail transit for at least a part of its journey; lay down restrictions on the weight and type of goods for which they are used; and also establish that the haulier is liable for a container all the time that it is in his nossession.

Actual conditions of carriage for the goods themselves will be the same as for other traffic in the new regulations introduced by the railways in January, 1962.
