PE T ROL rationing and the reduction of messenger staffs are questions being discussed with some anxiety by Glasgow shopkeepers, Whose trade necessitates daily deliveries over a wide area. One suggestion to ease the difficulty during war-time is that a parcels-delivery service might be established on the corporation buses and trams. The idea is that collection and delivery offices might be established along main routes and that customers
could call there, by arrangement, for their own parcels.
In addition to relieving the strain on traders' delivery services, it is contended that a municipal delivery scheme would increase telephone ordering and thus reduce the shopping crowds at rush hours.
The shopkeepers interested in the scheme believe that the proposed service could be made to pay, and so supply useful revenue to the city.
