VILLAGERS CARRYING 31acards spent three hours walking n front of traffic on a notorious accident black spot road to protest against truck drivers who use their village as a short-cut.

The demonstration was on the A4304 between Market Harborugh to to Lutterworth, Leics. Residents in the village ofWalcote claim HGVs are using the road to avoid using Junction 19 of the MI while travelling to and from the A14.

Police escorted the protesters for safety and the villagers are threatening to repeat the demo. They say that if plans for two gravel quarries get go-aheads the number of trucks using the short cut would increase by 120 a day.

The situations being investigated by county council highways chiefs.
