The driver of an artic found to be almost three times over the drink-drive limit has been ordered to do 180 hours of community service by the Flintshire magistrates.

Stuart Simms, of Ossett, near Wakefield, was also disqualified from driving for three years and referred to a drinkdriver's rehabilitation course.

The magistrates were told that police stopped Simms' lorry at 09:30hrs as it left the Deeside Industrial Park after making a delivery Simms failed a breath test, and the intoximeter test at Mold police station showed he had 100mg of alcohol in his breath.

For Simms, John Wylde said that he had been on a bail condition not to drive since his arrest, and had lost his job. He had not been drinking that day and had not realised that the alcohol he had drunk the night before would still be in his system.

Magistrate Carlton Jones said that to drive an artic when over the limit was very serious. The vehicle could have caused havoc if involved in an accident.

Simms was ordered to pay 245 prosecution Costs.
