SI No 3048—The Road Veh ides (Construction and Use) (Amendment) (No 3) Regulations 1993—cif 1 January 1994. Remakes the earlier SI 1 946 on Speed Limiters due to drafting defects.

Implements EC Directive on speed limiters reducing setting for goods vehicles to 56 mph with effect for new vehicles from 1 January 1994, Vehicles first used on or alter 1 January 1988 and used on inter national journeys are affected from January 1995 and on domestic journeys from 1 January 1996. Vehicles within scope are goods vehicles over 12 tonnes MGW. The speed limiter on buses and coaches First used on or after 1 January 1988 must be set at 65mph for vehicles used on international journeys from 1 January 1 995 and domestic journeys from 1 January 1996. New vehicles From 1 October 1994 will be limited to 65mph. Changes are also made to the speed limiter plate requirements.

The Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) .(Amendmentl Regulations. Increase in weight limits to 44 tonnes for articulated lorries and drawbar trailer operations carrying containers, swapbodies or 'bi-modal' semi-trailers, to or from rail terminals. Also increases weight limit for drawbar trailer combinations on five or more axles to 38 tonnes and applies 4.2m height limit to articulated lorries and drawbar combinations over 35 tonnes GVIN. Anticipated implementation date March 1994.

The Quick Frozen Foodstuffs (Amendment) Regulations 1993. Requires monitoring of temperature during transport, storage and warehousing. Anticipated implementation date was 31 July 1993—still delayed The Rood Vehicles (Construction and Use) (Amendment) Regulations.

In-cob height signs for vehicles over 3m; warning systems for vehicles with -high-level power operated equipment; notification to highway authorities of vehicles and loads operating above 4.88m. Anticipated implementation date still 1 June 1994.
