By Laura Hailstone PRESSURE GROUP TransAction is calling for the road transport industry to back Peter Carroll in his bid to become an MP In the next election. Carroll, who runs Seymour Transport in Maidstone, Kent, and is a leading light of TransAction, will stand as a Liberal Democrat candidate for Maidstone and the Weald. He plans to become the industry's political champion.

TransAction founder Mike Presneill says: "It will give us someone on the inside who can ask questions that we, as an industry, have been unable to get the answers to things like why we cannot get a fuel rebate."

Speaking to CM, Carroll says that he made the decision to stand because there is -no-one in Parliament who understands the road haulage industry".

He adds: -There are real quality family haulage firms being crushed by government policies and noone understands their plight.

"The biggest problem our industry has is that there is no fair taxation on fuel. My two goals, if I am successful, will be to establish an all-party Parliamentary group for British road hauliers, and to become the 'voice' for getting a fail deal for fuel in Parliament."

Carroll already has politica campaigning experience he wa: behind the Gurka's fight for justia earlier this year. He says: "I startec the Gurka Justice Campaign an Joanna Lumley helped finish it also do a lot of campaigning ir Maidstone for the local hospital."
