By heck, that was some year wasn't it? With all that has happened in 2009, it would be too easy just to focus on the doom and gloom, but we're going to resist that temptation, There are some reasons to be cheerful this Christmas, and CM takes its proverbial hat off to the true pioneers of the industry those willing to fight its corner on a daily basis.

A good place to start is our 'Power Players' countdown. This Christmas and into the new year, we will be revealing the top 20 most influential people in road transport, starting with those placed 20 to 11 on page 44, and concluding with the Top 10 when we return on 7 January 2010.

For those who are impatient, you can Log onto www.roadtransport.com for an exclusive preview and keep up with the industry news during the break as well.

One major 'Power Player' is Dick Denby who hit the headlines earlier this month with his 'Ll-IV trial that never was', Denby, ever a man of conviction, tells CM that the Eco-Link could get another run: -If at first you don't succeed, try and try again.

We can't help but admire his tenacity in trying to get LHVs onto British roads. Also hitting the headlines before Christmas is TransAction's Peter Carroll, who has announced his intention to run for a seat in Parliament. He will campaign to be the voice of road transport in Westminster goodness only knows we need one. Good luck with the campaign, Peter On that optimistic note, we would like to wish all readers a happy Christmas if you get a break' or a productive one (if you don't', and here's to a prosperous 2010. See you on 7 January...
