Doncaster Council praised for parking plan

THE ROAD HAULAGE Association (RHA) says it is delighted a South Yorkshire council has already approached it for help in providing a lorry park after the government published a report on the issue.

RNA infrastructure manager Chrys Rampley says Doncaster Council has a relatively new mayor keen to tackle the problem of lorries parking in unsuitable areas. Last month, the Department for Transport published a strategy document on its intention to tackle the lack of secure lorry parks (Government unveils truck parking plans', CM26 Nov),

Transport minister Paul Clark says it will provide guidance to councils and also increase coverage in the local planning documents so their provision is not overlooked.

Rampley says: "I am quite chuffed that we have already had a couple of enquiries. Doncaster Council is looking at what it can do; it thinks it has a problem. It has been in touch with me for help and advice."

Doncaster's mayor, Peter Davies, does not list iorry parking as a priority on his website, but a council spokesman says: "We are currently looking at lorry parking provision across the borough."
