Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Ihave just read Geoff Houghton's letter (CM 3-9 December) and it has prompted me to put pen to paper.

As an international driver the idea of a 60-hour week fills me with dread and horror. How will UK international haulage companies compete with "other modes of transport"? Neil Kinnock has banged the last nail in driveraccompanied UK international freight's coffin and has made the life of Dutch and Belgian hauliers easier.

They can do The Netherlands or Belgium to the UK and back to The Netherlands or Belgium with one driver and The Netherlands or Belgium to Germany or Austria and back with another.

It's time for UK hauliers to stand together and either put rates up across the board or for everybody involved in transport to have two weeks' unpaid holiday and all go off to Spain in the sun.

It wouldn't take long for the general public or politicians to start listening to the industry's plight and maybe treat us all with some respect,

MJ Gardiner,

ass, Norfolk
