BUSINESS MOVES

Nightspeed investment

• Express parcels delivery company Nightspeed Services is investing • 750,000 on upgrading its information technology systems to meet customer needs for real-time proof of delivery and improved communications. The project includes the introduction of in-cab data transmission equipment.

Triple expansion

• Springwood Holdings has bought Bradbury Lifts, Spraybake and Peters Door Systems. The companies will continue to operate from a single site in Braintree, Essex, with a total workforce of 200.

TRAINING

Power courses

• Antares (Europe) is running a series of one-day training courses on auxiliary electrical power systems, covering the basics of battery charging, AC inverters, batteries and load management. The courses are aimed at electrical technicians and anyone specifying systems on commercial and specialised vehicles. Courses are available on Wednesday 27 January, Wednesday 24 February and Wednesday 24 March. There are eight places available on each course.

RIM courses

• The Road Haulage Association is offering courses on a range of haulage topics at its Peterborough base as follows: Hazardous Goods—ADR courses to enable drivers to earn or renew their vocational training certificates for the carriage of hazardous goods in packages. Renewal course, 25-27 January; initial course, 23-24 and 30-31 January National CPC-1-5 March with revision days on 15-16 March and the examination on 19 March.

Dangerous Goods Safety Advisers, for the DGSAs who must be appointed by 1 January 2000 by everyone transporting, consigning, warehousing, loading or unloading hazardous goods; this five-day course starts on 11 January.

Scania finance

• Peter Taylor has been appointed managing director of Scania's Milton Keynes based in-house finance company, Scania Finance.

Stena Line

• Gareth Cooper, nonexecutive chairman of Stena Line, is leaving the company at the end of the year.

• Mark Wingfield is the new sales development manager at the Allen Group, which manufactures air brake and electrical coils.

The Midlands

• Leicestershire A46 between Six Hills (B676) and Leicester Western Bypass, Syston (A607) South of Cossington: Contraflow, narnm lanes and a 50mph limit with wide-load diversion, until 23 December.

The North-East

• South Yorkshire, M1 between J34 Tinsley Viaduct (A6109) and J34 Tinsley Viaduct (A6178), Sheffield: Carriageway reduced to two lanes southbound until 21 November 2000.

The North-West

• Lancashire, M6 between J27 (Standish) and J28 (Leyland): Contraflow, 50mph limit both sides of Charnock Richard Services, until 15 February

Northern Ireland
