Association has reminded its importing member companies that, with effect from 1 January 1988, it is necessary for every importer to have a Trades Unique Reference Number.
This is a three digit extension to an importer's existing nine digit VAT number but must be applied for from, and registered with, Customs and Excise.
Applications for a TURN should be made to; TURN Team, CSD 20, HM Customs and Excise, 5th Floor, Prudential Building, 7 Elmer Approach, Southend on Sea, Essex SS1 1NE, phone (0702) 367676.
Having obtained their TURN, importers should ensure that the information is passed to agents who are authorised to act on their behalf.
