BEDWAS BODYWORKS of Bedwas, Newport, Gwent, a member of the Securicor group of companies has opened a new factory in North-West England, by moving its Preston operation to Chorley.

The company designs, builds and refurbishes commercial and special purpose vehicle bodies for a wide range of customers, including the Post Office, British Telecom and British Rail as well as individual operators.

In addition to general freight, parcel bodywork and its specialised security vehicle production, the company has produced such individual vehicles as prison vans, police surveillance vehicles, medical drug transporters and television outside broadcasting and support vehicles.

Bedwas also markets its own range of temperature controlled "Supercool" delivery vans for food products, and the "CS" Series, curtainsided rigids and semi-trailers, up to 12.2m (40ft) long, for parcel deliveries and palletised load distribution.

The Chorley factory's 1,400sqm (15,000sqft) of production area incorporates a very large modern spray booth, capable of accommodating maximum legal length trailers, up-todate machinery for metal fabrication and assembly. There is an outside parking area for vehicles awaiting manufacture or despatch and the site has easy access to the M6, M61 and M62.

At Bedwas in South Wales, the Company has a staff of 110. and it plans to employ between 40 and 50 at Charley.
