WORK could start next year the Efim widening of the Barg Bridge section of the M63 m the Manchester Ship Canal no Eccles.
The plan is to extend 1 bridge — scene of rush hour tr fic bottlenecks — by 21ft on ea side so that the highway's fc lanes can be increased to six.
The Department of Transp has now published a draft co pulsory purchase order for 1 land and access required.
Transport Minister Lyn Chalker said that work was I pected to start next year. "C objective is to widen the brid and the rest of the two-lane s tion of the M63 as soon as p, sible," she said. "It has be clear for some time that r bridge cannot cope adequat with present-day traffic."
