Need Found for Greater Stiffness in Filter Straps and Cooler Brackets

COLLOWING on operating experi1" ence, it has been found advisable to recommend certain modifications in the Government's gas producer designed for p.s.v. service. These alterations are concerned with the securing straps on the water filter and the supporting brackets of the coolers.

Concerning the first item, there are two types of strap fitted to water filters and in both cases the straps are spot welded to the filter body. Referring to the accompanying drawings, one type is shown at A, and the alternative type at B. In the case of the former it is recommended that a continuous weld be run along both edges as indicated.

In the second type it is suggested that angle brackets be provided and welded to the straps and to the body. It has been found necessary to stiffenup the supporting brackets of the coolers, as shownsat C, and to this.cnd it is recommended" that a second bracket be welded in position beneath the existing one, but in an inverted Position. The drawing of this feature, which is also shown, will make this modification quite clear. The M.O.W.T. says that arrangements are being made for the foregoing improvement to be introduced in spare parts; existing components, however, should receive early attention.
