Jak-a-Box

The ingenious Jak-a-Box, from Fermanagh, is a quickly demountable body that can convert a standard tractor unit into a toper in less than four minutes. Since its last appearance in these pages, changIng to the use of Swedish Domex 650MC highstrength steel has reduced the weight from 1,300kg to 990kg.

Trumac

The Westbury, Wilts-based operation of the GAP bodybuilding group has been separated into an independent company, Trumac Group Ltd. The name is derived from managing director Jarvis MacDonald and commercial director Heather Trueman, who are continuing their roles from the previous company. GRP's Leeds-based operation goes on as before.

The 90-strong workforce at Westbury specialises in the build, repair and refurbishment of dry freight and refrigerated bodies. One of the first tasks since the change of structure is an order for 23 bodies for rental and contract-hire provider Glenthorpe Contracts under its new 'fridge2go' trading identity.

Higher up the weight scale, Trumac has just completed a repeat order of eight MAN TGL 7.5-tonners for the Holland and Barrett fleet. The 5,450mm bodies feature a front 40% frozen compartment and a chilled compartment, Carrier Transicold Xarios 600MT twin evaporator systems and Transcan dual monitoring look after the cold aspects. The health-food trucks are in for a busy time, with up to 125 drops a day over a five-year, 600.000km life. bodybuilder and van converter, has launched a new 24-hour service, Aire Body Care.

Initially covering England and Wales from a Birmingham base, the scheme offers R&M contracts covering regular routine inspections and minor 'wear and tear repairs, with the ability to repair more extensive damage at extra cost. Atypical R&M contract for up to five vehicles is quoted at around E50 a month, with further volume discounts applying.

The service is due to expand across the UK with a target of 10 mobile workshops on the road within two years.

The second new service is Oldbury-based Bevan Group's Bevan Bodycheck, which undertakes to carry out regular bodywork inspections on site, identifying and rectifying problems. Both services are available for each company's own products and for thirdparty bodies.

Mobi-Lift

Hull's Mobi-Lift has developed a car trailer with a built-in electro-hydraulic scissor lift, which can raise a car or light van by nearly 2,000mm. Designed for an-site vehicle repairs or underbody inspections, it is aimed at vehicle repair and recovery organisations, motor-sport teams and enforcement agencies. The chassis is fully galvanised by Humber Galvanizing.

Hatcher Components

Framtngham, Suffolk-based Hatcher has launched a range of hygienic van-lining kits to fit most vans on the UK market. The smoothsurfaced white panels are individually shaped to maximise space and provide optimum fit. With the kit in place, the van's interior has no dirt-harbouring corners and can be power-washed.
