Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A planned series of 24-hour strikes by 150 Christian Salvesen drivers was called off after a compromise deal over pay was agreed.

The drivers were also unhappy with the style of Salvesen management which they claimed showed a "dictatorial attitude."

Top-level talks involving union leaders, Christian Salvesen and a Sainsbury's official—for whom the drivers deliver goods—have helped resolve the dispute.

It is understood that the new two-year agreement will boost pay rates by about 11%, pushing up hourly rates to around 26.30.

In addition, drivers will receive their average pay while on holiday instead of just their basic wage, topping up income by a further three percent.

Bob Shaw, regional organiser for the Transport 8t, General Workers Union, says: "The dispute has been resolved after management put forward another offer which we put to the workforce. What we need to do now is put this dispute behind us and work with Christian Salvesen and their customers for a better future and move forward in a spirit of co-operation."

A Christian Salvesen spokesman says: "All parties expressed their commitment to build on this new, positive phase of industrial relations by entering into greater dialogue, coordinating communications and holding more regular meetings."
