Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

T have been reading recent lcopies of CM with interest. Everything you need to work in the haulage industry has never cost so much and haulage rates have never ever been so low. What has happened to all the forward traffic? All the goods seem to be carried on back-loads and these days there is no real value at all for money.

With DERV costing well over ,L2 per gallon, and a large vehicle using about 30 gallons plus all the other expenses of running per day, one cannot possibly hope to save up enough cash to purchase a new vehicle and pay all the high overheads It is far too easy to obtain an °licence these days—one reason is over-capacity in road haulage and rates remain low. Customers can soon clear all the goods on a "backload rate" for there is always someone ready to grab. The Government should give real help to British hauliers and, in turn, the hauliers would soon make Britain "Great" again.

We are always reading of Government cuts—cuts in VED, VAT and DERV duty and Uniform Business Rate would be welcome, This is what hauliers really need. Jean Sharpies Sharpies & Son
