• Hauliers sacking women who have worked for them For less than two years must comply with Full disciplinary procedures after the Court of Appeal ruled that the two-year rule breaches European sex discrimination law.
The court said the twoyear rule introduced in the 1985 Employment Act affected women more than men because they find it harder to work for two years continuously.
The decision is almost certain to be appealed against in the House of Lords and again in the European Court, but it already raises the prospect of around 25,000 women sacked since 1985 claiming
compensation from the Government for unfair dismissal.
