THREE 'RUCK HIJACKERS have had their jail terms substantially cut on appeal.
Michael Slinger from Liverpool. Barry Adams from Fife and Robert Hickey from Liverpool were convicted of hijack, theft and conspiracy charges when they appeared before Winchester Crown Court last year.
The court heard that in 2005. the men had hijacked a truck carrying a consignment of £80.000 worth of Cognac at Sutton Scotney Services on the A34, near Winchester.
The men were jailed for six years, five and a half years and two years respectively.
But the men's sentences were cut to four years, three years and 12 months respectively at the end of a hearing before the Court of Appeal in London last week.
The court heard that, although the men had overpowered the French driver and left him stranded by the side of the road, they had not beaten him up.
David Lederman QC, for the defence said: "This case is not in the first division, it is not Premier League, it is probably Championship."
Cutting the sentences, Mr Justice Blair said: "Although not in the first division, this was still a well-planned offence involving a high-value target."
