Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE MOTOR coaching season in South Wales opened on Good Friday in a most promising manner, and large numbers of passengers were carried by most of the local [proprietors' vehicles. Several owners have stated that the volume of traffic dealt with during the Easter week was more than in the same period in any of the past three years, and they are inclined to believe that this augurs a good season.

In the case of the trips advertised by many competing proprietors, a wide difference was to be noted in the charges which they made for similar journeys, and, so far as Cardiff owners are concerned, their fares for similar trips varied as much as 40 per cent. It is understood that negotiations are to take place with a view to securing a greater uniformity of fares than ex isted during the Easter holiday. A well-known motor coach proprietor in South Wales stated that it was noticed in the opening week of the season that the public selection of vehicles was not so much influenced by the price charged for a trip as by the general appearance of the vehicle and the comfort which it provided.

Some remarkable figures are available showing the increased popularity of buses for carrying the public from the towns to the adjacent countryside-, and to the towns for football matches and other sources of attraction in South Wales areas. At Cardiff, on the municipal bus services, the increased traffic during Easter week, as compared with the same weeks of 1922, was over 159 per cent., the actual figures for each year being as follow :— The actual receipts from the services during Easter, 1923, were 2783 15s. 9d., as compared with 9291 16s. bd, during the like period of 1922. The number of passengers carried increased by 35,21.3, as is indicated by the above figures
