Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Prior to the sale of GJ Cooper Holdings to Miligold Investments in July (see above), Palletways had thrown out its subsidiary Boyes Conning Freight Services, despite a record that saw it named as one of the network's best performing hauliers barely a year before. Boyes Conning, now in liquidation, formerly handled several south coast postcodes.

However, it was given seven days notice in June, with Palletways citing its poor performance. This is despite it being awarded Platinum member status — the highest possible award from Palletways — by the network in June 2009, signifying that t exceeded a number of KPIs. Only a fraction of Palletways 120plus members have achieved that level.

Craig Hibbert, MD for Palletways UK, says Boyes Conning had fallen massively below its agreed input volumes over the last 12 months. Although Palletways had given the business support to help it develop, Hibbert says there seemed to be no interest in doing

so. He adds: When you've got a business that doesn't want to do that, then it is not contributing to the greater whole."

The Platinum award, he says, was given in recognition of its improved performance during 2009. This year it would have been at the lower Silver level.

Simon Webb, former MD, says it bent over backwards to help the network when it expanded its area in 2006. He also stresses that it had an understanding over the input/delivery ratio: "We said from the start that we would never have a balanced trunk."

He maintains that due to Boyes Connings inability to fulfil the network projects, in particular Palletways' expansion of its Southern hub in Greenford, London, resulted in the network dispensing with its services.

Palletways has replaced it with four hauliers covering the same area: existing members Eaton Transport and Air Sea Logistics, and two new members, Andover Transport and AFS Haulage.
