Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The Conservative party is planning to publish figures by the end of November which will aim to show how the Government is crippling the UK haulage industry.

A working party will be formed soon with the task of producing bard evidence of the unfair advantage that the Government has handed to Continental hauliers.

It will be made up of key industry representatives, rumoured to include TransAction leader Frank Stears and a spokesman for Christian Salvesen, as well as an accountancy such as PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Speaking after the first meeting of the shadow Transport Forum last week, shadow Transport Minister Bernard Jenkin said: "We are aiming to increase the pressure on the Government in the run up to the Budget and are making sure we have the information to do that.

"The key question is the per kilometre price of running a 10tonne truck in this country," Jenkins added.

The Forum was attended by Jenkin, David Heathcoat Amory, the shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury and Earl Attlee, the Conservative's spokesman on transport in the House of Lords.

Hauliers at the meeting included Frank Stears and representatives from the East Anglian Hauliers Group.
