Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A‘1 experimental vehicle recently placed in service by Wolverhampton Corporation Transport is a Ford R226 frontentrance and central-exit single-decker to be used in comparative trials alongside heavier-duty buses. Although the first 36 ft. bus to be introduced by the department it will be joined by six AEC Swift and six Daimler Roadliner rear-engined singledeckers, all 13 buses to be fitted with bodywork by Strachans (Coachbuilders) Ltd.

The Ford is to be tested over a wide range of services to gain maximum experience of different operating conditions, and marks the beginning of large-scale experiments by the department with oneman operated buses. In recent years the standard bus employed in Wolverhampton has been of the 72-seat forward entrance double-decker type, these buses being used to replace trolleybuses.

Powered by a Ford 360 cu. in. diesel engine developing 128 b.h.p. at 2,800 r.p.m., the R226 is fitted with a five-speed gearbox and Ford 15C rear axle with a 5.57 to I ratio. Standard on the R226 chassis are front and rear shock absorbers and power steering. Also standard are Michelin X 9.00-20 radial cord tyres, which form part of the specification improvements offered on 1967 models.

An interesting feature of the Strachans Paeesaver II body is the use of three-andtwo seating behind the central exit to give a maximum seating capacity of 54 passengers despite the use of a dual entrance arrangement. In front of the exit normal double seats are employed together with a wide gangway to allow freedom of passenger movement.
