Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

WITH a radius of 25 miles and two named " customers "we cannot make a decent living", Mr. L. J. Bradbury of Slough told the Metropolitan LA last week. He was speaking for A. J. Bradbury and Son, Slough hauliers and carton manufacturers, who sought a licence variation by the addition of named customers and extension of radius. It was claimed the firm had obtained the original licence to utilize spare capacity on C-licensed vehicles used in connection with the carton manufacturing side of the business.

"You said you didn't want to make a living out of haulage", said Mr. Richard Yorke, representing BRS, who were objectors. Mr. Bradbury told the court that there had been a falling-off in business during the year. When it was pointed out that the trading difference was only one per cent, Mr. Bradbury said that although there had been a reduction in work his rates had increased.

Mr. A. N. Seragg of Tekpak Ltd. told the LA that his consignments would be travelling to places within 60 miles of Slough and named amongst his customers BMC Cowley.

Mr. Yorke advised the LA that the original objection had come from BRS Parcels Ltd., and he was not prepared for a general haulage application. The LA felt that the applicant had got in to haulage by the back door and wondered if it was right to continue it at all. But he added the named customers of Lyndoe and Tekpak with a 60-mile radius and Slough Metals with a 25-mile radius.

'Right of Way': Were the roads in the Holmhill Estate, Easington Colliery, suitable for an hourly bus service? Yes, said the Northern Traffic Commissioners, granting an application by United Automobile Services Ltd. to run a service between there and Durham. No, said Durham County Council, although agreeing a bus service was needed. Yes, said the Minister of Transport, rejecting an appeal by the council against the decision.
