MR. A. BINNS, representative of Leyland Motors, Ltd., in the Near East, is on a combined holiday and business trip to this country, He returns -to the Near East at the end of this month.

MR. STANLEY H. JENKINS, late of Albion Motors, Ltd., and S. T. Abbotts and Co„ Walsall, has been appointed sales manager of Diesel Services, Ltd., Handsworth, Birmingham, which is a distributor in the Midlands for E.R.F. vehicles.

MR, J. L. KINDER has left his appointment as national organizer of the C.M.U.A., as a result of reductions in the headquarters staff. Mr. Kinder has spent three years with the C.M.U.A., which, prior to 1935, had few organized areas, the chief being Lancashire and Yorkshire. To-day, witn few exceptions, all territories have established area machinery. Last year, the association received the highest recorded national income, coincident with the largest number of new enrolments. Mr. Kinder was also responsible for producing the " C.M.U.A. Journal" in its present and revised form, and carried Out a large amount of lecturing work for the Association.

Durban City Council, Stores Department, is calling for tenders (Contract No, G.S.1535) for the supply of eight six-wheeled trolleybuses, equipped with all-metal bodies seating 70-72 passengers. Tenders have to be delivered to the town clerk, Municipal Buildings, Durban, by October 14, 1938.

The same department is also in the market for two motor ambulances and, in this case, tenders have to be in the hands of the town clerk by October 28.

Brush to Build Petter Engines.

Petters, Ltd., recently announced that in pursuance of its policy of concentrating manufacture, an agreement has been entered into, by which the Brush Electrical Engineering Co., Ltd., acquires the assets (other than land and buildings) and business relating to the manufacture of oil engines, hitherto carried on by the Petters concern at Yeovil.

Part of the machinery will be transferred to Loughborough, and Mr. T. B. Keep will continue as managing director of the Brush Electrical Engineering Co., Ltd., whilst there will be no break in the continuity of manufacture or servicing of Petter products. The land and buildings at present occupied by Petters. Ltd., have been disposed of to Westland Aircraft. Ltd.

eau Petters, Ltd., will become a holding company, deriving its inconie from its interest in the Brush concern and other investments. The negotiations have been mainly due to the efforts of Mr. Alan P. Good, chairman of Petters, Ltd.

Hauliers Agreement with Railway.

An agreement between a road-transport operator and a railway company was mentioned during the hearing cf an application before the Northern Licensing Authority (Sir John Maxwell), at Northallerton, on Monday. Mr. Walton, of Waltons Carriers, Ltd, .Catterick, who applied for the renewal of a B licence, said he had agreed with the London and North Eastern Railway Co. that he would not carry coal or coke beyond a 10-mile radius, but the proposed radius for other goods was 50 miles. The licence, amended accordingly, was renewed.

Mr. A. F. Nicholson's Death.

The death has occurred in tragic circumstances of Mr. A. F. Nicholson, 0.B.E., who for some considerable time was chairman of the Western Area Traffic Commissioners, Mr. Nicholson went to his garage with the object of preparing his car for an afternoon trip to his golf club. When he did not return a member of his family went to the garage and found him lying unconscious on the floor, apparently suffering from the effects of fumes from the car. He was found to be dead upon the arrival of a doctor.

A well-known figure in the West Country, Mr. Nicholson was respected by the whole of the road-transport industry, and was noted for the fairness of his decisions when acting as chairman of the Commissioners. THE SUNBEAM POSITION.

it was recently announced by Rootes Securities, Ltd., that Sunbeam Motors, Ltd., and Clement Talbot, Ltd., would, in future, operate as Sunbeam-Talbot, Ltd., with chief works and registered offices at Barlby Road, North Kensington, London, W.10. The merging of these two well-known names in the car industry does not affect Sunbeam Commercial Vehicles, Ltd., the maker of Sunbeam trolleybuses and batteryelectric vehicles. The registered offices and works of this concern, which is also associated with Rootes Securities, Ltd., are at Moorfield Works, Wolverhampton.

Last Tuesday's Appeal.

Tuesday of this week saw the commencement of an appeal, before the Tribunal, by Thatcham Road Transport Services Ltd., against the refusal of the South-Eastern Licensing Authority to vary an A licence for 14 additional vehicles.

As we went to press, Mr. E. G. Woodward was giving his submissions for the road-transport concern, whilst Mr. B. de H. Pereira was to reply, yesterday, for the Great Western Railway Co.

Mr. Stick Bereaved..

We extend our sympathies to Mr. J. H. Stirk, chairman of the East Midland Traffic Commissioners, upon the loss of his only daughter, who died in Nottingham, on Tuesday, from injuries received when thrown from a hunter, which bolted.
