Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

By Christopher .Viatton GEOFF DUNNING has been appointed as the latest chief executive of the Road Haulage Association (RHA).

Dunning has been the RHA's northern regional director since 1987; he will take up the position early next year. when current chief executive Roger King retires.

"This is a wonderful opportunity, albeit at an uncertain time," says Dunning. "I shall ensure the RHA continues to provide effective, practical support to its members."

lie added that it would be his intention that the RHA remained the association of choice for all UK road transport operators.

The RI-IA's national chairman, Andy Boyle, tells CM: "Geoffs appointment comes with great enthusiasm and great hope."

Boyle insisted that choosing Dunning sent out a message that the RHA was more than just a lobbyist for fuel duty cuts. He adds: "We're in danger of being thought of as a political organisation as we have had two politicians as chief executives. Geoffs focus will be reinforcing the value of the RHA to the membership."

lie added that the RHA needed to provide a broader focus and provide real value to members, in order for it not be seen as a cost hauliers could afford to cut.
