Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• "The road transport industry would have no objection to restrictions or prohibitions by local authorities on the overnight parking of lorries in the street. The only proviso is that there should first be off-the-road parking facilities including satisfactory accommodation for drivers."

A recommendation to this effect, from the Catering and Accommodation joint committee. representing road goods transport employers and employed, is being sent to a working party established by the Ministry of Transport to look into the problem of goods vehicle parking and accommodation.

The committee is also drawing attention to the reluctance of some local authorities to make land available for the centrally situated lorry parks that are required. The Ministry is being urged to take vigorous action nationally to presuade the local authorities to take the necessary steps.

The committee expects shortly to issue an abridged and up-to-date edition of the Driver's Guide to catering and accommodation facilities. In the meantime a completely revised edition is being prepared. A working party is considering the possibilities of raising standards and of providing commercial motels with associated guarded lorry parks.
