rork-lift and Platform Trucks NEWLY formed British company, Elwell-Parker Ltd., –1 is now manufacturing, under licence, the latest range f electric fork-lift and platform trucks designed by Elwell parker Electric Co., of Cleveland, Ohio.

This new range of trucks is to be known as Elpar-Union Acro-Smooth ", Four versions arc, at present, available: hese are designated EF-60T-6, EF-60T-5. EF-60T-45 and 1F-60T-4, with capacities of 6,000 lb., 5,000 lb., 4,500 lb., and ,000 lb. respectively, at 24-in. centres.

The battery-driven trucks have front-wheel drive, rear-wheel eering and electro-hydraulic lift and tilting from centrally laced controls. The EF-60T series incorporates the Elwellarker design of carbon speed control, using a simple rnechanal linkage between the accelerator and the carbon antroller—this is claimed to give dependable, infinitely varihie stepless control at all speeds. The trucks have electrically .elded box chassis, with two centre sills forming a rigid isembly; there is easy access to major components.

"H "-section channels give a rigid mast assembly with good :sistance to sway and torsion—twin tilt rams, anchored to the ame sills, are used to stabilize the mast further. The drive sle is a double-reduction unit consisting of a normal crown 'heel and pinion with four-pinion differential assembly. driving. trough spur gear reduction to the road wheels. The drive totor is a totally-enclosed, series wound, heavy-duty ball :aring 36 V unit, direct-coupled through a flexible coupling the drive axle. Braking is by foot pedal to 12+-in. by 2+-in. ydraulic brakes on each drive wheel. A further 7-irn brake fitted to the motor shaft, linked to the seat. A hand lever perating the front brakes is also provided.

Steering is by normal wheel to a twin turntable-type rear eering axle with twin wheels in each turntable. Elpar-Union ucks are powered by Exide-Ironclad traction batteries.

One section of the brochure deals with p.s.v. seating manuctured by another T.I. company, Accles and Pollock Ltd. ther sections feature railway carriages, bulk containers and in bodies.

Versatile Coach Radio mOW available front Philips Electrical Ltd. is a new coach radio called the Philitouring. Apart from the basic threewaveband radio this model also has facilities for connecting up. a microphone and tape recorder or record player pick-up. There are also facilities to connect up to 10 loudspeakers in the coach and there is independent push-button control of both the driver's and passengers' loudspeakers. Push-buttons are also used for selection of radio or record player/tape recorder playback.

The Philitouring is an all-transistor model for operation in coaches with either 12 or 24 V. d.c. negative or positive earth systems_ All controls are displayed on a chromed metal front panel. Wavelengths one long, three medium and one short— can be pre-selected and timed at the press, of a button. Current consumption is 0-3-1-4 A at 14.4 V or 0.24-0.8 A at 28.8 V. Output is 8.5 w. (10 per cent distortion).

Philips have also produced a new EL3300 battery pocket tape recorder, claimed to be ideal for a pre-recorded commentary to be played over the radio system.

Hydraulic Throttle Control System AN hydraulic throttle control system—a compact master and slave unit especially suitable for buses and heavy trucks—is now available from Armstrong Patents Co. Ltd. It is claimed to give smooth, silent and positive operation. free from maintenance problems.

The accelerator pedal of the vehicle is attached to the spindle of the master unit. Ns hic.h is linked to the slave unit by a nylon or copper pipe. Pressure on the pedal forces oil through the pipe and actuates the piston in the slave unit—the piston rod operates the throttle lever arm.

'Main points of the system are: flexibility of the pipe enables it to follow any path, making for easy installation; the master unit can be supplied rightor left-handed: it can be fitted horizontally or verticalls: there is automatic venting on the pedal return; and the slave unit will operate up to 40 ft. from the master unit.

Auxiliary Suspension Kit for HAs NOW available front Aeon Products. (London) Ltd. is an Aeon rubber-spring, auxiliary suspension kit for the recently introduced Bedford HA Series vans and their derivatives, such as the Martin Walter Beagle. These kits comprise a pair of Aeon hollow rubber springs matched to the vehicle. plus the necessary tilting brackets, bolts, washers and nuts to complete the installation. This is the latest -addition to the full range of A.H.R.S. auxiliary suspension kits.
