THE WIFE OF a man whose truck had been impounded has succeeded in her bid for an 0-licence after satisfying North-Eastern IC Tom Macartney that she was not a "front" for her husband.

Goole-based Melanie Dales, trading as Confectionery Factors. had applied for a new restricted licence authorising one vehicle. She was currently operating under interim authority.

Dales said the lorry was needed to bring in goods for distribution by two small vans. It would be driven by her husband Ian, and was the same vehicle that had been impounded. Vosa said they could have it back as long as they covered the costs of impounding and had an interim licence.

The vehicle had been stopped in June 2004; Ian Dale5 was fined £250 with £150 costs for having no 0-licence The vehicle was stopped again a year later, when it had no 0-licence, no excise licence and no tachograph. It June this year, the vehicle was impounded when, again there was no 0-licence nor excise licence.

Ian Dales was fined £525 for the offence of no excisc licence. He said he was "somewhat ashamed" of thc way things had been run in the past. Melanie Dales %tic she had been unaware they needed an 0-licence. Whet she became aware, she decided to seek a licence in hei name so she could ensure things were run properly.

The licence was granted with a warning that thc past problems must not be repeated.
