According to Truckpot's quarterly survey for April-June 2006, £17m worth of cargo and was stolen, comprising £6.6m worth of vehicles and just over £10m in loads.
Truck crime had dropped sharply in this quarter of 2005, but this year saw it back up almost to 2004 levels,
For example, during the second quarter (02) of 2004 there were 877 incidents, compared with 649 in 2005 and 817 in 2006. Hijackings dropped from 18 (02 2004) to 10 in 022005; however the 2006 02 figure was 21. Of the 817 cases in 022006, 341 involved the theft of a vehicle, and 256 theft from a vehicle. The thieves were thwarted in 86 cases.
