• Continental driver Gary Bowkett of Cheltenham has pleaded guilty to three charges of falsifying tachograph charts. But Gloucester Crown Court gave him a conditional discharge after a judge decided his boss was partly to blame.

Judge Gabriel Hutton told him: "This is a matter of some seriousness but a lot of responsibility must fall on your employer, who for technical reasons, has not been prosecuted."

Two months ago the boss of Ralph Davies International was acquitted of five deception charges arising from this case after no evidence was offered against him.
