ADF appointment • The council of the ADF has appointed Colin Middlemiss as director general from 1 January. He will succeed Reg Patrick.

Service deal • Trailer axle maker BPW UK has appointed Walsallbased S Jones Truck Centre as a parts and service agent.
Clutch change • Heavy-duty clutch manufacturer Lipe has purchased all the equity of Driveline Specialist from Swinton, Manchester. Driveline specialises in repair and reconditioning of truck and bus transmissions and cliffs.
Rags wiped out • A trade survey predicts a gloomy future for the traditional workshop rag in the face of stiff competition from disposable wipes. Convenience, cleanliness and dispensing systems are all telling factors.
