million tachographs are checked every year, the House of Lords was told last week.
Viscount Goschen, the
Government's transport spokesman in the Lords, added that the Government is keen to take forward "research on producing better types of tachograph" in order to improve enforcement with new smart tachos.
Lord Clinton Davies was sceptical about tachograph law enforcement all over the Continent. He said: 'Those rules are now being flouted across the whole of the European Union and need to be made much more vigorous." Viscount Goshchen said that in 1994/95 there were 2,835 drivers' hours prosecutions.
