Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

I T was announced late last week that an addition had been made to the range of Morris Commercial Cars, Ltd., Birmingham, 8. The new vehicle is known as the Morris light 2-tonner and is essentially a development of the Morris LC5 30-cwt. chassis. Its main differences consist of stronger springs and twin rear wheels.

The standard power unit for the new chassis is the B.M.C. 2.2-litre fourcylindered overhead-valve petrol engine, which develops 46 b.h.p. at 3,250 r.p.m. and has a maximum torque output of 97 113.-ft. at 1,800 r.p.m. The B.M.C. 3.4-litre four-cylindered oil engine, which develops 52 b.h.p. at 2,500 r.p.m. and 130 lb.-ft. torque at 1,500 r.p.m., is offered as an alternative at additional cost.

A heavier constant-mesh gearbox, as used in 3-ton models, is fitted to the chassis when an oil engine is used, and

both petroland oil-engined chassis have heavy-duty rear axles. These have a reduction ratio of 5.714 to 1 in the petrol-engined version and 4.585 to 1 in the oiler.

The new chassis is a normal-control design with a wheelbase of 10 ft. 1 in. and an overall length of 16 ft. 4 in. When fitted with the standard three-man cab, a frame length of 8 ft. 41 in. extends behind the back of the cab and the maximum legal length behind the driver's seat is 10 ft. 2 in.

Hydraulic two-leading-shoe brakes are used and 6.50-16-in. (8-ply) tubeless tyres are fitted. A spare wheel and tyre are standard equipment. Hydraulic dampers at both axles are standard on export models and are available as extras on home chassis, whilst air cleaners are standard equipment on all but petrol-engined home models.

The light 2-tonner is available as a chassis (complete with bonnet and scuttle), chassis and cab, or as a complete drop-sided truck with 9-ft. body. The overall length of the truck is 17 ft. 31 in., and the width is 6 ft. 11 in.

The petrol-engined lorry has a basic price of £648, plus £121 2s. 6d. purchase tax. The petrol-engined chassis only has a basic price of £509, plus £121 2s. 6d. tax. The oil engine raises the basic price of all versions by £155, and the purchase tax on the engine is £38 15s.
