ENVIRONMENT Secretary Anthony Crosland has no immediate plans to publish a White Paper on transport policy—because, he explained last week, he wants " ongoing " studies in his Department to be completed first.
Mr Crosland, who was speaking in the Commons, agreed with Mr Leslie Huckfield (Labour, Nuneaton) that what was wanted was as integrated a transport policy as could be had.
He could not accept that the Government did not have a transport policy at the moment (CM last week) but took the view that matters in the transport world were changing rapidly.
Pointing out that there was an on-going study of various measures in the Department on all aspects of 'transport policy, Mr Crosland said the only reason why he did not hold himself to a White Paper was that until these studies were completed it was not sensible to publish the results in a single document but rather in a number of separate documents.
