VOLLOWING recommendations by 1 the London and Home Counties Traffic Advisory Committee, the Minister of Transport has made extensive restrictions on the freedom of vehicles in the West End of London, in an attempt to relieve congestion.

These measures, which come into effect on May 27, include the banning of slow-moving vehicles in certain areas and a " no-waiting " order to apply to about 10 miles of London streets.

Slow Vehicles Banned Mechanically propelled vehicles with a speed less than 8 m.p.h. will be prohibited from noon to 7 p.m. on Mondays to Fridays, and from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturdays in the whole of Oxford Street and, short lengths of adjoining streets, New Oxford Street, Haymarket, Old Bond Street, New Bond Street. and parts of Regent Street and High Holborn. The " no-waiting " order takes effect from 11.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. on Mondays to Fridays. If it be impossible for goods vehicles to be loaded or unloaded outside these hours, only 20 minutes will be allowed for such operations. Police may instruct drivers at any time to move on to prevent obstruction.

Passenger vehicles will be allowed to stop only long enough for passengers to board or alight. Taxicabs on hire will not be allowed to wait at passengers' request.
